■ 03 — Our story

Three generations.
Since 1937.

It started with a single service station on Main Street in Honesdale. Today Firmstone Lakewood Fuels is one of the region's largest, most reliable family-owned oil companies — still run by the third generation of Firmstones.

George Firmstone opened up in 1937. His brother Francis joined after the war. In 1947 they purchased the Atlantic Refining Company's local petroleum holdings, and the company hasn't stopped growing since.

George Firmstone opens the first service station on Main Street, Honesdale.

Firmstones buy the Atlantic Refining petroleum holdings — become a branded Jobber/Distributor.
1964
Second generation — John and James Firmstone — take over management.
1985
Firmstone Tire & Auto becomes a branded Exxon dealer through Lakewood Oil.
2007
Steven and Ronald (third gen) on board. Lakewood Oil acquired — Firmstone Lakewood Fuels is born.
Today
Three bulk plants — Lakewood, Honesdale and Milford — serving seven counties in two states.

How do I know if you deliver to my address?
We cover five counties in NEPA (all of Wayne and Pike, parts of Lackawanna, Susquehanna and Monroe) and most of Sullivan and Delaware in NY. If you're on the edge of our area, please call the office — our coverage map isn't exact and we'd rather confirm than turn you away.
What's the difference between automatic & will-call?
With automatic delivery, we watch the weather and your usage history and deliver before you run out — and you save $0.17/gal off full price. With will-call, you watch your tank and call when you need it. Automatic is the easy button; will-call gives you control.
What payment options do you accept?
Cash, check, and major credit cards. Ask about our Smart Pay Plan to spread heating season into even monthly payments. If you qualify for HEAP (NY) or LIHEAP (PA), we're a participating vendor and happy to work with those agencies on your behalf.
Can I order fuel online?
Yes — through My Account on flfuels.com you can place orders any time, check history, and manage billing. Prefer a human? Call 570-253-1200 and we'll take care of it.
Do you service furnaces and burners?
We don't do burner service directly, but we keep a handy list of trusted plumbing & heating pros across the coverage area — Bortree, Buselli, Console, Hiller, L.H. Reed, Ron Lenz, MJL Mechanical, and more. Call us and we'll point you to the closest one we trust.
I ran out of oil. Now what?
Call us first — 570-253-1200. Once we top you off, you may need to bleed the line and restart the furnace. Two short how-to videos are linked above; they walk through priming the pump and getting heat back on.
Do you deliver off-road diesel to farms & job sites?
Yes. We deliver off-road (dyed) diesel to quarries, construction sites, yards and farms throughout the coverage area — volume pricing available. Call the office to set up an account.

All our drivers carry CDLs with hazmat endorsements and follow DOT regulations to the letter. A few homeowner tips, too.

Keep a clear path

Shovel 3 feet around your fill pipe and gauge so our driver can reach it without trouble.

Mark your tank

In heavy snow, a tall stake or flag at the fill helps us find it fast and safely.

Don't let it run dry

Sediment at the bottom can clog filters. Call at ¼ tank — or switch to automatic.

Annual tune-up

Ask your service tech for a yearly furnace tune-up. Cleaner burn, lower fuel bills.
